About Us

MSAQ is the Queensland Chapter of the Musicological Society of Australia (MSA). It is committed to providing exposure and advocacy for established forms of music research, to actively supporting emerging approaches to music research, and to encouraging young music researchers, particularly at graduate level.

Members of MSAQ are involved in many areas of music research, including historical musicology, music analysis, practice-based research, ethnomusicology, popular music studies, Australian music studies, and cultural studies. In this way, MSAQ is well equipped to support a wide range of serious research interests in music.

The MSAQ committee organises a number of annual musicological events, including the MSAQ Annual Lecture, and a Student Symposium. The Student Symposium also incorporates the presentation of the Gordon Spearritt Prize for best student presentation.
